Bellevue PD uses 3-D scanner to help solve investigations
The Bellevue Police Department has brand new technology to help solve investigations.
The department has been using a 3-D scanner in their crash and crime scene investigations.
Police tell KIRO 7 they’ve been using the new technology for a few months.
Bellevue police say they are able to scan a scene in as little as two minutes.
Police showed KIRO 7’s Gary Horcher how the scanner works – His report on KIRO 7 at 11.
The Chemical Brothers’ video for the single “Wide Open” has been making the rounds. It depicts a barefoot woman dancing through an empty industrial space as her body parts are slowly replaced by see-through 3D-printed material. Watching it, I was amazed to see special effects that I couldn’t figure out immediately. I kept asking, How’d they do that?
Ask and ye shall receive. The Mill has posted a blog post on their site explaining exactly how they “turned wold renowned dancer Sonoya Mizuno see-through.” And wouldn’t you know it, 3D scanning was a central part of the process.

PointSense Plant: Industrial Plant Design from AutoCAD Point Clouds
kubit PointSense Plant for AutoCAD allows for industrial facility design from laser scan data in AutoCAD. Work with native Autodesk point clouds (Recap RSP, RCS or classic PCG). Detect industry catalog components along a pipe line and automatically convert to AutoCAD Plant 3D objects. Extract multiple standard and custom structural steel shapes in batch mode, detect tie-in points. Work from a high resolution view rather than the raw scan view. Perform equipment analysis on tanks and vessels.
